Back when we started CrowdFlower, we knew we wanted to be big, but I can’t say we contemplated completing our one-billionth crowd judgment. We crossed that mark last week - at 9:16 PT on the Fourth of July no less.
Judgments are the crux of microtasking. A contributor in the crowd can “judge” a number of things – whether a search result is relevant, whether an image is appropriate, whether an address is complete. All kinds of things.
Our one-billionth judgement was a business listing verification task done by a contributor from Brazil. Crowdsourcing is really global. Our contributor was verifying the details of a small business in Australia for the database of one of our U.S. customers. The contributor was just one of our crowd of over five million people around the world, doing this work day in and day out. We couldn’t have done it without all of you. Thanks.
I would also like to thank all of our customers who gave us the opportunity to bring their work to the crowd. We are grateful for their faith in us. It wasn’t always easy. I am constantly amazed at their creativity and the types of jobs they are bringing to CrowdFlower.
Last, but not least, our engineers and services team are pretty great, too, and achieve amazing things every day. They design the software and the jobs that make microtasking rock.
If you want to learn more about microtasking and how it works, watch this. And as we grow, and the number of judgements continues to increase, we’ll be looking for smart people to join us and build the microtasking platform for the future. If you are one of those people, drop me a note.
For now, the work continues. On to two billion.
