Describe your hometown:
Great restaurants and international food supplies, three ski/snowboard areas visible from the city – each a 20 minute drive away, one of them (Cypress Mountain) hosted several events of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, e.g., Mens Snowboard Halfpipe where I saw Shaun White claim it with the Double McTwist 1260. I’ve been snowboarding these mountains since 1987, and since then, our city has added over 40 different skateparks. We are about 90 minutes away from Whistler, two hours from Seattle and the city is very cycle-friendly. We also hosted Metallica’s filming of their 3D tour video last summer.
What made you interested in microtasking?
I kind of stumbled across it, honestly. But since then, I’ve used CrowdFlower to earn a bit of money and now that I’ve been doing more lucrative tasks, I’ve been able to significantly increase my weekly earnings. Pretty awesome! It helps pay for small things like my website, hosting etc.
What kind of work do you like to do?
I work in data/inventory and purchasing. I also do some accounting/taxation/payroll/bookkeeping.
What’s the single CrowdFlower task that you’ve enjoyed the most? And why?
I think the best task is Say “Yes” or “No” for Question and Answer Pairs (Premium Wordsmiths Only!) It pays so well, and keeps me on my toes to find typos, spelling or grammatical errors and to study the viability, truth or objectivity of the answers.
What advice would you give other people interested in working on microtasks?
Brush up on spelling, pay absolute attention to grammar, memorize answers where possible and learn as many hotkeys as possible to help save time performing tasks. Ctrl+Tab Ctrl+Shift+Tab etc.
What do you do for fun? (when you’re not microtasking, of course)
I love to cook, cycle, skateboard, skimboard, play hockey, spend time with my daughter, snowboard, play drums, guitar, listen to Rush, do tasks, and work on my blog www.boarderama.com
If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would you go and why?
I would catch the next red eye bound for Hawaii. For the mere quest for surfing without a wetsuit and to get some awesome shave ice and killer fresh fruits and their juices.
What is something that you have always dreamt of doing?
Touring a bunch of French Polynesian islands and surfing, eating, fishing, eating, surfing, fishing, surfing, eating, fishing and then sleeping.
Is there anything else you’d like to tell us about yourself?
I have several websites. My main one right now is Borderama
And me riding the Olympic Halfpipe in Vancouver:
